How to Prepare Child for Hostel Life - Tips to Parent

Parents love their children so much that they would do anything for the child.  Even the smallest household chores are completed by parents giving child the full freedom of enjoyment and leisure.
We are living in a very competitive world today and education is no exception.  Soon after the schooling, almost all the children are going to stay in a hostel for higher studies.

For almost all parents this is a vulnerable situation and to some it’s like a nightmare.  On rare occasions like school excursions children were away from parents and never they were away from parents for a longer periods.  Now the inevitable is coming in the form of study from hostel due to higher ambitions.

Parents should not only prepare themselves for this but also prepare children for a smooth transition.  Easier said than done…right?   But here are some tips for parents to prepare children for the turbulence times.

Nothing comes free of cost.  This is the first thing a parent should teach the child.  If the child is asking for some things to be bought frequently, you need not deny them but ask them ‘what they would contribute in return for the favour?’  Suggest them to do some of their daily chores on their own like keeping the room tidy, arranging books in order, switching off electrical appliances when not in use.  With this practice children would understand the importance of money and also learn to do things on their own.

Many children, as soon as they enter home, leave their school books, etc. where ever they feel like and make them look all over.  Inculcate the habit of keeping them in an orderly manner to them.  This helps them a lot in their future as they are habituated to be keeping things in order.  More over this makes them look good natured to others which is a personal boost to the child in the crowd.

Encourage them to develop gardening or some regular hobby.  When they habituated to looking after plants, aquarium fish, etc. they would become time sensed and would learn to do things in time and planned.  This would turn the child into task oriented and successful goal managers unknowingly.
